Human eggs and sperm have been grown in the laboratory in research which could change the face of parenthood.
It paves the way for a cure for infertility and could help those left sterile by cancer treatment to have children who are biologically their own.
But it raises a number of moral and ethical concerns. These include the possibility of children being born through entirely artificial means, and men and women being sidelined from the process of making babies.

Logan’s Run

Why risk natural concept?
But then, why risk parenting. Parents might not teach properly and probably won’t.
Why risk natural DNA? Improvements to ensure well designed bodies could help ensure the species.
But the species is merely a mechanism efforting to ensure itself. Why not make the species better?
But then what is the point in having a species that merely strives to continue to strive?
Science is certain that the Earth will keep rotating without a human type of species.
Why have humanity at all?
Where is the wisdom in doing anything?

Perhaps it is time to stop producing scientists and focus a bit more on wisdom.

This sounds too much like a brave new world to me. kind of creepy.

… Rather than seek cures for deadly degenerative disease, they make something almost all of us have an ample supply of. Good call science.

“The most powerful weapon to conquer the Devil is humility. For as he does not know at all how to employ it, neither does he know how to defend himself from it.”

But he sure knows how to destroy it. 😉

It isn’t really the scientists, who are but a few isolated elite. It is the gatherers lust for power that drives Mammon into socialistic demise, having no clear sight as to the purpose of life or for what they gather in knowledge.

Scientists, not science. If we can slam an ideology based on its adherents, then I can say, “Rather than offer money to the poor, diseased, and malnourished folk of India, the Pope lectures them on condoms. Good call, Catholicism.” 😉

I’m sure that the scientists responsible were working in their area of expertise and that many others are working on deadly diseases, because that would be in their area of expertise. It helps to think.

One thing to clarify here:
No living things can be created without any living tissue.
A cell is a living tissue.

#1. No living things can be created without any living tissue - T/F?
#2. No living tissues arrived from the outter space - T/F?
#3. The Earth has living things inside - T/F?

As a result, the Earth is a living thing. (#3 can be used as a cross-reference)

With the hope to search for a new discovery, ones should not use LOGIC to start thinking of a scientific hypothesis. LOGIC destroys all variations. It fouls out ideas & concepts by old (-school) thinking. Below is a diagram that gives you a more concrete idea.

Evaluations on my Logical Proofs:
  1. True- 2. False-3. True = True (that reflects the second statement - 2. False - is true)
Logic is a broad game that limits your ways of thinking.
That’s why the TRUTH belongs to me, not yours.
  1. No living tissues ever arrived from the outer space - True/ False?
  2. No living things can be created without living tissues - True/ False?
  3. The Earth has living things - True/False?
With references to no. 1-3 sentences above, the Earth is a living thing.

I would propose that there is nothing that insanity can bring you that Humble LOGIC could not have provided in a FAR more harmonious fashion.

mans greatest sin through satanic pride is when he tries to create himself.

Siddhartha:
I apologize in advance; I have just come across this thread and I have a question that I couldn’t find covered here.

The title of this thread is: “No men OR women needed: Scientists create sperm and eggs from stem cells.” My question is: Where did these stem cells come from??

I also have a comment. Scientists cannot create anything. Only God can create. Scientists may very well work with cells, but they didn’t create the cells that their research used.

I’m quoting you because your post is #1 in this thread, although it contains a quote and I don’t know where that quote came from. I am interested in this research although IMHO I have problems with the morality; it seems that we are going down a slippery slope and I don’t know how far we will be going. Personally I don’t like this type of research although I can understand why some scientists are working with stem cells.

That’s the first thing that came to my mind when I read it too. My guess would be aborted children…or it may even be, like, pig stem cells. Though, and don’t quote me on this, I had heard that there were other ways to get stem cells, from…live birth fetal material, or something like that.

Well, IMHO, no one can ‘creat’ anything…doesn’t stop them from trying, of course. I once watched a program, in grade 5, about them trying to make life (Bacteria) I can’t remember how it turned out, but it was living materials. What humans do is…manipulate, is a nice word, their surrondings. Quite well too. They’re manipulating the stem cells, which COULD become an egg or sperm, into it. They’re not making eggs out of rock, or dirt, or dust, or anything.

I’ve read that stem cells can be obtained from the umbilical cord and also from bone marrow. But stem cells from embryos are supposed to be the “best” for research. Personally it makes me ill. They say they “create life” but if they are using embryonic stem cells they are murdering unborn children.

I enlarged the chart and read your post and I have to say I absolutely have no idea what you’re talking about. Would you please explain again?
