One argument I heard against it was it would cause divisions between us and Protestants and would make evangelizing difficult. I don’t care. Other faiths don’t worry what we’ll think when they preach their rapture beliefs or anti-Catholic rants or openly ordain gay clergy. I don’t expect them to be worried about false peace with us by worrying what we’d think. Beside, if we feared such high promotion of Mary, we’d hardly be Catholic, because she is so high in God’s gift to mankind. Let’s quit worrying what others think and care about giving high praise of God’s greatest works; thus highly praising Him. St. Maximillian Kolbe wanted competition between Mariana in giving the highest compliments to Our Lady. God picked The Church to lead; not to go along to get along or to be liked or respected. Maybe, if we have a dogma declared that would give Mary such honors, God would bestow greater graces to mankind and isn’t that what The Church is about? If we humanly try to maintain human peace by human means, we’d be falling into pride, I think. As for Mary not needing the titles, it’s not all for Mary’s sake, but what God likes and it honors him. Neither Mary nor God need our human honors for their edification. It’s not about that. The titles remind us what God does for us through the vessels of His grace.

Amen! I myself humbly hope to see the day that the 5th Marian dogma is proclaimed. I wasn’t alive to see the other four, and this would be huge!

The Holy Spirit guides the Church in such matters. Thank God.

I agree that that particular objection is not as huge of a concern as some make it out to be, but for different reasons. For me, this “fifth Marian dogma” is all about Mary’s role in our lives and in the world today. That is a huge source of misunderstanding for many non-Catholics. For the Church to more precisely articulate that role – in my estimation – would bring clarity which could only help ecumenism.

I don’t think we should adopt an attitude of “they don’t care about us, so we shouldn’t care about them.” Jesus prayed that we all be one and we Catholics ought to join our prayers to His. It’s not useless to factor that into the equation. It is true we ought not let it paralyze us into inaction. But neither do we want to be casually dismissive about it.

I trust that the Holy Father and the Holy Spirit will work it out in due time.

We must just keep on praying that if it is God’s Will, that the Pope will proclaim the dogma one day. surely the Co Redemptrix role would actually be understood much more by non catholics- as opposed to the usual misconceptions they have.

Frankly, I see absolutely no need for a 5th Marian dogma.
