Noah preached Jesus Christ

Today at my wife’s LDS church, the Sunday School lesson was about Noah. Most of the time was spent not in Genesis but rather the Book of Moses, which is part of their “Pearl of Great Price”. This is meant to be Genesis with some of the pieces added back that were removed in history by other churches. The following verses were read:

23 And it came to pass that Noah continued his apreaching unto the people, saying: Hearken, and give heed unto my words;
24 Believe and repent of your sins and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, even as our fathers, and ye shall receive the Holy Ghost, that ye may have all things made cmanifest; and if ye do not this, the floods will come in upon you; nevertheless they hearkened not. [Moses 8]

How do we refute this from the Bible ? i.e. that no way could Noah having been teaching baptism and the gift of the Holy Ghost, and quoting the name of Jesus Christ.

The problem is not so much how to prove Noah was not a preacher. That’s pretty easy when you use the real Bible.

The problem is getting them to believe that their extra books are fiction. Until they believe that, their answer will always be, “The Book of Moses says Noah was a preacher of Christianity.”

In addition, if their extra books are fiction, then Smith was a false prophet. They won’t want to believe that, because it destroys their whole foundation.

I’d say it will be very difficult - but not impossible. Just keep your temper, and stay in charity. Don’t tell them right out that they’re wrong, but try to gently lead them towards the truth.

The Holy Bible said the Salvation plan was a MYSTERY, until revealed in Christ. So, anyone who claims Noah to have fore-knowledge is admitting himself/herself to be a fraud.

Who are you going to believe, the Bible or the Pearl of Great Price? The Bible was written thousands of years ago and the Pearl was written less than 200 years ago. What reason would any Church have for removing such a writing? Then ask, what reason would a ‘Church’ have for including them?

Where is their proof those verses were removed by another Church?

See, they have you in a position of proving a negative, specifically proving something they claim is not there. How can one prove it’s not there, because it was never so or if it’s been removed? That places the proof of their claim on them. PROVE IT WAS REMOVED.

The name ‘Jesus’ is in several locations of the Old Testament of the Catholic Douay-Rheims version of the Bible. (Habakkuk 3:18, Haggai 1:1,12,14 and 2:2,4, Zechariah 3:1,3,6,8,9 and 6:11) Why would it not be in the one place Mormons claim it was removed?

The Douay-Rheims uses it, translated from the Hebrew:

Now, if the Douay-Rheims is the only version of the Bible to use the name ‘Jesus’ in the Old Testament, and the King James Version does not, did the author of the Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith, use a Catholic Bible to assist him in translating the Book of Moses and write the Pearl? Surely he would have not used the Bible from what he claimed to be the apostate Church? If the Book of Moses was correctly translated by Joseph Smith, it seems to validate the Catholic version of the Bible as more correct than the other translations, doesn’t it?

I see more than a few problems with their ‘addition’ to scriptures.

Also, understand if there is another version of the Bible that uses the name ‘Jesus’ in the Old Testament, I am not aware of it and am open to correction on those versions.

The assertion is by the morrmons. It is up to them to show that the Son became Incarnate and instituted the Sacrament of Baptism before the time of Noah. Then they would need to explain how it is that He had to have more than one ministry and what exactly they were for.

Noah simply did not know who Jesus would be, or what His name would be, either.

the Law of Moses had not yet been given, many of the prophecies about Jesus (in Isaiah, Jeremiah, and the Psalms, for example) had not yet been given, and the covenant between God and Abraham had not even been given yet.

Noah had no way to know what the Messiah’s Name would be, and the fullness of what Messiah would be like and what He would accomplish had not yet been revealed in prophecy.

there is also no mention at all of baptism in Noah’s day. the covenant God made with Noah after the flood mentioned nothing about baptism, or the Messiah specifically (Genesis 9:1-17).

Jesus Christ (Yeshua the Messiah) had not even incarnate yet, and no one had of yet heard His Name, or understood who He would be. the prophecy about Messiah had been given in Genesis 3:15, but the details had not yet been revealed to God’s people.

Logically, it would call into question as to if Jesus appeared in the “fullness of time” as stated in Scriptures. Basically, if Noah could have known of Jesus, his message, and his ministry, why did he need to be born at all?
