I am looking for information not to be against other religions, or to “fight back”. But I am just looking for information to support that the Catholic Church is not the only church with sex abuse cases and such. Many years ago I heard a speech showing how ALL religions face these issues, but it’s only the Catholic Church that the media goes after because It is way more powerful then the other 30,000 denominations. Such things that were said was how non-catholic ministers abuse finances and buy only the best houses and cars and such, and the relations with underage woman and such. Does anybody have any resources for me to, again not to use negatively, but to use to show that all churches have particular individuals who are sinners, like us all, and need help and prayers.

Thanks,
St. John Bosco, pray for us!

I have on occassion read several such news releases in local papers as I travel, but it never rises to the national level as do the same crimes when they occur within the Church. So , you will have to do a constant search in several large metropollitan papers and read the local news to discover same.

However, one very important point that also never makes the news, is www.virtus.org which is the organization formed by the Catholic Church to teach about the signs and behaviors of sexual predators. How to recognize someone who is exhibiting such behavior, and more importantly what to do about it. Turning our heads or doing nothing is no longer the course. The slightest suspicions must now be reported and action taken.

The Catholic Church has created this course of instruction to be proactive, and this course is being so well received as being recognized as one of the best such courses available. This applies to all persons, in all categories of life. If you have a child in school, any school, I would strongly suggest you request this course be mandatory for all teachers, and all students above the age of reason.

The protestant churches have exactly the same problem as can be seen from the attached link which documents 838 protestant ministers who have abused children.

I was actually looking this up today… It makes me angry that the Church gets nothing but bad press when this issue arises. Protestant churches deal with this same issue and you hardly hear about it. stopbaptistpredators.org/index.htm has some good info.

I can’t recommend Phillip Jenkins’ book “Pedophiles and Priests” enough. He’s an Episcopalian, so he’s not out to cover for the Catholic hierarchy, nor does he have an axe to grind. It’s an excellent and fair treatment of the topic and covers the problem across denominational lines as well as in general society.
