Non Catholic "Canonizations"

Does the Church recognize the canonization processes of the Eastern Orthodox Churches? If so is it permissible to pray to or participate in a prayer service for designated post schism Orthodox Saints. While on deployment with the US Army to Kos-Met, Serbia, I frequented Serbian Monasteries and attended divine liturgy and other devotionals.

Are private devotions to “non Catholic saints” deemed illicit?

Hi Anthony,

Every Christian to my knowledge is called to be a saint. When St. Paul opens his letter to the Christians in Rome he writes “To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be Saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ” Romans 1,7.

Ultimately God decides who His saints are. Us men are incapable of deciding who a saint is or is not. Only God knows what is in our hearts and minds.

For the most part yes the Church does reconnized the saints of the Orthodox churches. As for privated devotions that is what in a lot of cases starts the process toward cannization is that oen or more poeple have private devotions to some one that inspired them and through prayers for their intercetion gods mericule have come forth.
