A lot of people say this, but I don’t agree with it:

There are people who want to change and need help in the process. So one could actually help change someone.

It is often said that couples are to help one another get to heaven. Well, that might involve helping someone to change.

Could a parent not change a child for instance? Unless I don’t understand what people mean by “change”.

From a more theological POV, it does seem viable that a difficult marriage could be your best path to salvation due to giving you an opportunity to grow in sanctity while helping bring another back to the fold. It doesn’t really make sense to equate the supposed “God’s plan” with whatever’s easiest or most pleasant or produces the happiest feeling. On the other hand, it’s easy to use missionary dating as an excuse to just give in to an attraction that doesn’t lead to a good place.
