I’m not sure what I was watching. Actually, I wasn’t really watching it, I was flipping channels and the word “Catholic” jumped out at me when he spoke it.

This show involved a protestant minister (I am unsure of his denomination) who was speaking about the Catholic faith. I initially thought “Wow! He’s talking about us!” Then it turned to “Oh, he IS talking ABOUT us”.

He made the statement that, and excuse me if I don’t get this quite right, the Catholic Church knew that the Anti-Christ would be our next Pope. Apparently we were to have, at some point in history, another 113 Popes. And JPII was 111. He went on to say that Cardinals in our Church had stated our next Pope would be this figure. Of course, this minister went on to say that with disention in our own Church, how could we continue to be Catholic.

Does anyone know where this information is obtainable? And possibly where he gathered the information to make these claims? I am hoping someone else saw this. I was so angry at the end of this “speech” that I turned off the television and pulled out my rosary. Thoughts? Information? Please help.

I am not certan of the person you spoke of but there is a Catholic figure named Malachy who supposedly prophesied “x” number of Popes, with Benedixt XVI being the last before the rise of an ‘anti-Pope’. There is a shift in language at that point, which some have taken to mean that there COULD be a gap between Benedict and whomever follows, perhaps of a substantial period. I don’t mean a lengthy Interregnum; I mean to say that given the way things are worded, there may be any number of popes between the last pope prophesied by Malachy and the anti-Pope. I might also note that the rise of an anti-Pope does NOT preclude the valid election of a true Pope as well–though it might be difficult to discern initially who wuld be the ‘valid’ pope and who the anti-pope.

There are several other convergent predictors that Benedict might be the last ‘good’ pope before the last days. However, I recollect that the same sorts of coincidences were occurring in the late 1970’s among Protestants–including a book which named Anwar Sadat the Anti-Christ, another which predicted the return of Christ in 1988, another which pinned the tail of the anti-Christ upon Mikhail Gorbachev, etcetera, etcetera. These things come in waves, as a series of coincidental events appear to confirm the fears and/or hopes of those looking for the soon advent of Christ. Considerable problems can arise if this sort of thing gets carried over into hysteria.
