Non-Catholics recieving the Eucharist

I have a friend who wants to convert to Catholicism, he is in line with Church teachings, including transubstantiation. In what circumstances, if any, can he recieve the Eucharist. (He was baptized Methodist, and has not been confirmed Catholic yet)

He must be received into the Catholic church. This is usually done through the RCIA process in the US. There are always exceptions. He should talk to a priest ASAP.

I would say “there are few exceptions.” Most converts have to go through some sort of formation/education process, most commonly RCIA.

OP, your friend should talk to the parish office about signing up for RCIA, since many programs begin in September. If he has other questions, he should talk directly to the priest.

Your friend is not allowed to receive the Eucharist until he is fully received into the Church. Hopefully, he has already met with a priest and is enrolled for the next RCIA to meet in a few months from now and will make his first Communion at the Easter Vigil in 2013.

He will make his First Holy Communion after he has made his First Reconciliation, his Profession of Faith, and has received the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Church.

This will normally take place after a period of formation through the RCIA process for baptized non-Catholic Christians.

The only exception to this would be if he is in danger of death, in which case, the only thing that would be omitted would be the period of formation - he would receive Reconciliation and Confirmation, together with the Sacrament of the Sick, on his deathbed, and then the Sacrament of Holy Communion just before death.

I was a Methodist before converting. Your friend will have to wait until he becomes Catholic (and that would be after going through an RCIA program) before receiving the Eucharist.
