A coworker’s husband recently experienced a heart attack. She called me frantic late the night of the heart attack and I gave her some prayers to say and I specially recommended that we pray to Padre Pio which we did. We also prayed the precious blood of Jesus prayers. Her husband was not supposed to survive and miraculously he did. He is at home now and they are asking me to bring them a candle from Rome as I’m going to Rome this summer. I told her it didn’t matter where the candle came from that I could bring her one right away and that I was happy to get a candle to her now and bring her one from Rome also. I’m anxious to give her more information about the church but I’m not sure what I should do. Can you recommend a book or a specific site or something that wouldn’t be too much and yet with peak their interest

Are they interested in the Church or are they chasing miracles?

Not knowing their level of education, their primary interest in the Church, etc., it’s really impossible to recommend any books–which many don’t read as it is these days.

You are their main contact with the Church. You might want them to ask you questions–to gauge what they already know and accept, and then seek out resources you believe would help them with their questions/concerns. 🙂

They, and you, have my prayers. :crossrc:

Are they non-Christian meaning they would be perhaps interested in converting from another religion or non-Christian meaning unchurched?

Peace,
B

When all is good in our life, it’s much easier for us to put God in the background. In most cases, it requires a life changing event for one to want to know more about God.

I don’t know your Co-Worker personally and it’s important I don’t Judge or stereotype this situation. It does sound like the reality of her husband’s Heart attack is slowly bringing her closer to God, which can only be a good thing.

It’s with great delight to see that your prays to Padre Pio and to the Precious Blood of Jesus has worked. Praise god, and thank you to Padre Pio for his powerful Intercessions.

In regards to the candle, your absolutely right, it doesn’t matter where the candle comes from, however I’m sure a candle from Rome will be a wonderful gift for your Friend.

Don’t be too anxious to give your friend more information in regards to our Church. Our Church is a remarkable gift, a wonderful gift from Jesus himself, a free gift for everybody.

If your friend is not baptized into our Church, I can only pray that one day, she will be baptized into the Catholic Faith and I’m sure any Local Parish priest will be more than happy to help and guide your friend.

Below is a few resources that I personally use and I do hope they will benefit your friend in her quest to know more about our rich Catholic Faith.

sites.google.com/site/apostolicapologetics/Home - an easy to follow apologetic guide to the catholic faith

catholicity.com/catechism/ - The catechism in simple language

There is a book called ‘Catholicism for Dummies’

Once your friend becomes more advanced in faith – all the different content from The early Church Fathers is absolutely priceless

earlychristianwritings.com/churchfathers.html

and also the works of St. Thomas Aquinas

dhspriory.org/thomas/

Your friend will always be in my prays and I hope one day, your friend and her family, will be fully united with the Catholic Faith

Obtain a copy of what is below (in my signature) and keep it “on hand” for them or anyone else you run into. If it helps, inform one of your local priests of your progress. Aside from that, inform them that Saint Peter was given the keys to Heaven (found in scripture) and that he was the first Pope, dying in Rome. The significance of this may help them realize the faith we have is genuine.
