This is a real puzzler for me as a Christian, and I live in Japan and endured the quake.
Japan has such a low percentage of Christians that it is well below one percent. The vast majority are Shinto and Buddhist or simply agnostic. And yet there have been no reports of looting after this quake! Yet in countries where Christianity is dominant, looting is rampant after a disaster. Even in the “one nation under God” there was all that looting after Katrina!
True, I would hope that the looters were not Christians, but we Christians have a few lessons to learn when the world is praising Japanese culture (and by extension, its non-Christian religion) as being so honest and upright!
You make a good point and your statement says a lot. I noticed the looting issue a few days ago and compared it to Katrina. Either there isn’t any or it’s not being reported as previously stated. I live in Louisiana and personally heard stories about Katrina so I will get to that later. I don’t think it’s an issue of religion alone but both religion and culture.
As far as looting and Christianity goes, Christians should be well disciplined to the point of not doing anything Jesus would not do even if your life depended on it. Whether or not those people in N.O. were Christians, I don’t know. If they were, then things are worse than we know. As far as this nation being a Christian nation, it’s not. It’s a Christian nation by name only. We live in a nation where atheists know the bible better than Christians.
This nation is full of convenience where two chik-fil-a’s sit beside each other

. If a grocery store stopped selling meat then people would probably panic and go to fast food restaurants and not pay attention to the vegetables in their refrigerator. So when something happens I’m not surprised when looting takes place. Don’t get me wrong, when a crisis strikes, people tend to not think clearly and that may have been the case in N.O. Also, other conditions were a factor, such as aid to those people. So we can’t place all of the blame on those who did the looting but there is a lack of discipline in our nation.
I’m not Asian but I know quite a few of them. They are well disciplined people. Their religion and culture teaches them to be that way. A lot of them take their religion and culture very seriously and it shows. Yet in the U.S., nothing is more important than self, food, and television and these are the “Christians.” I’m a Christian and I was once that way, but my eyes were opened and I pray that this nation will do better. But the bible says otherwise, because Revelation 13:3 says “And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.”
