Non Denomination People Praying Over You?

I was wondering if it’s appropriate and/or wrong for non-denominational Christians to pray over you? Where I work, non-denominational Christian groups come in and talk to the kids I work with. They pray over the kids and at times have often prayed over the staff. Not sure how to deal with it?

When the prayer is over, say “In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit” then make the Sign Of The Cross.

What is wrong with people praying over or for you, unless they are praying something heretical? I’d be happy to let them pray over me. God hears them, too, not just Catholics.

They are praying to the same God. Join them in prayer and end the prayer as you would normally (sign of the cross, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit).

I regularly ask my Pentecostal evangelist brother to pray for me and my family. I can use all the prayers I can get.

The situation you described seems alright. What is more questionable is when a Catholic seeks out Protestant faith-healers rather than trust God, the Sacraments, and prayers available to them from the Church.

There was a situation I had where a Mormon friend who had the “Melchizadech priesthood” in their faith wanted to anoint me with oil and pray over me. I declined saying that because of the sacramental nature of their prayer I didn’t feel it appropriate for me to be prayed for this way since I was Catholic.

I’d handle it by thanking them very kindly… I would (and have) also return the favor by remembering them when I pray the Rosary. God hears all of our prayers.
