My family has always been Catholic, fairly strong Catholics. I am the middle child of 3 kids (32) My sister (35) and my brother (27) are non-practing Catholics they have no interest in church, I was in the same boat 2-3 years ago I can’t pin point what or why I came back, I thank God I did, anyway how do I spur them on, they don’t want to be preached to, we will get God when we are old or sick, we are still young, we don’t need god, that’s how alot of young people think, religion is only for old people or I’m too cool to be a religious freak. What can I do to bring them around?

Show them by example. Lead the best life you can, show them how much God blesses those who obey him. Pray for them and love them. Do not nag them. They know what is right and hopefully will return just as you did. 👍

Good replies! I’m in the same situation. Remember, the love of the Gospel is addictive. If your family see the way your life has changed (and for the better!) they will start to ask themselves questions, and that’s where God can give answers.

God bless!

I’m in a similar situation. I come from a large, catholic family and I personally didn’t come back to the church until about 4 yrs. ago (after essentially being AWOL for 27 yrs). I have a few siblings who are either nonreligious, New Age spiritual, or consider themselves catholic but of the progressive, liberal type. My advice is similar to the other posts - live a life of joy and giving and they will begin to notice that you have something that perhaps they don’t. My siblings also respect my judgement and know that I am well-read and wouldn’t invest my life in something until I had thoroughly thought it through. Thus, this lends credibility to my convictions. My prayers are with you and your family.

And, of course, don’t forget to pray for them! God is the one who has to soften their hearts and lead them back to Him. I, too, am the only Catholic of 4 kids; one sister is strong Christian but somewhat anti-Catholic; one brother is Christian but very fundamentalist; and I don’t know if the other brother has any belief anymore.

Sometimes I am accused of still being Catholic only to please my parents, or that I never really looked into other religions. If they only knew! It was only through the grace of God that I have stayed Catholic and in the last 5 years really become on fire for my faith!

Include them in your daily intentions, pray Rosaries for them; offer your day for them, pray for them together as a family.
