I have a friend who does not believe in God. He thinks that there is no heaven or hell and that everything he has, he has because he worked for it and that god has nothing to do with it. He was baptized in the Catholic church but never really followed the religion and was never really taught or encouraged to go to church. What is the best way to convince my friend that he is wrong? Can you also help me explain to him how we know that everything written in the bible really happened.

You have to tread lightly, don’t want to scare him off. The best way to start is by setting a good example, who knows? maybe your faith will rub off on him.

God Bless,

I agree with the last poster. The best evangilization is not to preach but to set a good example for him. You have your work cut out for you!!!

Words of encouragement.

Take a look at the 12 apostles.

They were all ordinary men, nothing very special, but Jesus picked those 12 to be apostles and many others to be his disciples.

Out of the 12 Peter denied Christ three times, Thomas doubted Christ, and Judas betrayed Christ. Out of all His apostles only one was there when he was crucified and this was John with the three Mary’s, perhaps this is why John was the most loved.

I believe through doubting Jesus, Thomas was able to become even more intimate with his understanding of what the message was about. I believe that because Peter denied Christ three times he became a stonger rock for the Church. And poor Judas teaches me to never take Christ for granted.

You have a gift from God, that you now as an adult have accepted with love and humility. The Holy Spirit is powerful. There comes a time in everyones life that we all will fall down on our knees, sometimes with tears in our eyes seeking to better understand why,

Keep praying for him and all of us perhaps through your faith and love for him he will be saved. I look back on the flood story. God saw only one man that was good, one worth saving, yet God saved his Family. Through Noah his family was saved.
This story gives me hope for my family after I alone converted over to the Catholic Church.

read Adversary’s post above “thanks for help” he is a sweet little soul who will educate you on the right and wrong way to evangelize.

Beliefs, even atheistic ones, are always based on something.

Ask your friend what he bases his beliefs on.

Even skeptical scientists are beginning to admit that the universe seems awfully planned. They’re so desperate to deny God had a hand in it that they’re postulating that there must be multiple universes, and these others are completely random (in other words, creating evidence to support their conclusions, a rather unscientific way of conducting research).

If nothing else, at least if you ask your friend what he bases his beliefs on, you’ll understand where he’s coming from, and that’s a start.

(BTW, since he claims that everything he has he worked to give himself, you might ask him how he managed self-creation.)
