The priest works “in Persona Christi”, in “The Person of Christ.” When he absolves you of your sins. There can be different “interpretations,” of the advice of the priest, sadly. It is not necessarily a “sin,” since I do not know what the context is. However, it could be obstinate if you do not seek to find the correct answer. He may have been correct, but didn’t word it the right way, he may have been rushed, and didn’t explain himself in enough detail. It is possible he is wrong, which could lead you astray.
I recommend that you check out the Catechism of The Catholic Church to verify the recommendation, or answer your question. You can easily find the answer online at three sites that I use,

All of these websites have documents of the teachings of The Catholic Church, where you can read extensively on the correct answer.
I once had a priest tell me that it was perfectly fine to be an active gay person, he was wrong, as he added the word “active.” I simply found the correct answer in the CCC, and gave him a print out of the passage. He didn’t remember telling me active… he must have simply made an error. see what I mean? They are human, and the powere to absolve is Divine.
I won’t go into details but I sort of half-didn’t believe something the priest said in confession. Is that a sin? Since, you know, he’s sort of “interceding” (is that right?) for Jesus, is that not believing Jesus?
