Yes it is used as a derogatory term by some “traditionalists” who think they know better than the Church and the Pope.

I put traditionalist in quotes because these “traditionalists” who do this are no better than protestants as they have assumed the authority to judge the Church and Catholics who do not agree with them or their agenda.
That is ridiculous. When the Novus Ordo was introduced it was introduce as just that, the Novus Ordo. NO is the abbreviation. Read into it what you’d like, byzcath and others, I really don’t care.

But it’s a little prejudicial to ascribe motives that you couldn’t possibly know are there. I guess that makes you no better than protestnts as they have assumed the authority to judge another who does not agree with you or your agenda.

sexual sins covers much and is intentionally vague, MOM. Do you suffer from using pornography? no? don’t want to answer? Then why would I want to be that specific–it’s really not your, or anyone else’s business. (I can’t believe anyone would even speculate).
I am sorry for your bad experiences. It is not the norm in my experience. To the contrary.
I’ve got to tell you, I’m glad to hear that. You’re very lucky. And I know there are NO oasises of sanity in the storm of the NO sea. I haven’t denied that, even though others are making it out that way.

I’ll repeat something I’ve repeated many times: I have found NO Priests who are faithful. The trouble is, they seemed to be few and far in between.

Anyone else have that experience?

After participating in this TC forum for a few months, I was all ready to go buy a GIRM on Amazon and be able to detail all of the abuses in my parish. Then, I could recount them to anyone who would listen.

See, I’m a Quality Assurance professional, and I could certainly perform the task with skill and style. But, to what end? I found myself complaining after every Mass. I found myself separating myself from the Church, because they were all idiots.

I didn’t buy the GIRM, and I’ve stopped looking for every nit-picking mistake I could find. It was bad for me, personally, to attend Mass in that frame of mind. I’m trying to be more positive.

I do believe that Maurin, since he was paying attention and looking, found things in the confessional that he disagreed with. That is not my experience. I have found the majority of the priests in the Arlington, VA diocese to be pretty orthodox. Supportive in one’s struggle against sin, but, in my experience, they call sin what it is.
Again, ridiculous. How do you know “I was paying attention and looking [for] things?”

If you or others don’t have a sense of the faith, or if it is eroded to the point that advice given by a Priest in contradiction to the faith either doesn’t bother you, or you have no idea that advice given which is contrary to the Faith has occurred in front of you, well I’m sorry for you.

Those of you who don’t have those issues, I’m jealous, I really am.

It is preposterous to make that assumption, though, that many of you are making. You are so desperate to defend things that are indefensible that you are going to the extreme of villifying someone for their actual experiences.

Hey mob, got pitchfork?

life(name removed by moderator);5391467 We were both in a high stress period of our lives and the priest kind of condoned what I had done and continued to tell me what a wonderful person I was. I felt that he was justifying something that was clearly a sin. But then:
thought. The other time was condoning my personal use of birth control. I walked out of the confessional knowing full well that birth control was wrong, no matter what the priest said.
Wouldn’t it be great if we could see some kind of statement of believe of our priests — maybe printed on the back of the bulletin — so we can know how they stand on most of the biggie sins? Like a Pro-Life voters’ guide… All the big sins are listed on the left of the page, and columns can be checked off by the priest: Yes, I believe this is a sin, No, I don’t think this is such a biggie, and an “I’m not so sure what I believe” column…

That’s exactly right. It strikes me as being very similar to the fundamentalist mindset I walked away from.
Many fundamentalists are ex-Catholics. I was one for 20 yrs. I left the True Church because of abuses. I still don’t like the abuses, but I’m back because it is the True Church that Christ founded. It is obedience that keeps me in Communion with Rome.

In the words of James Joyce, Catholic means ***“here comes everybody!” ***

I didn’t have this happen to me because I was too young at the time, but other women I knew who were married were told that if you used artificial birth control, all you had to do was confess it. Women in the late 60s went to confession every week to confess using birth control. I didn’t discuss such thing with men at that time, so I don’t know about them.

That was the only thing I ever heard of like this, and I do mean heard of, because it’s all second hand information. It was confusing though. On one hand you’re told it’s wrong, and on the other you’re told but if you do it, just confess. Kind of had a “no big deal” feel to it, and it is a big deal.

Again, ridiculous. How do you know “I was paying attention and looking [for] things?”
Whoa, Nellie! I’m agreeing that you had the experience you had.

I am also saying that I live in one of the more conservative dioceses, and I haven’t had the experience you did.

If you find that you agree on a certain point with someone not a traditionalist, it’s okay to be nice and agreeable.🤷

I know Confession, but what’s NO Confession? Sounds like heresy to me.

Rereading your post, you are spouting heresy. There is no NO Church. There is only One Church. To say otherwise is a heresy.
Got to go along with this one here. There is one Latin Rite in the Church. There is no such thing as an NO Church or a special NO sacrament of confession.

For my part, I have not really any difference in parishes where the EF Mass is celebrated and those parishes where it is not. I have seen a few isolated problems and a few weirded-out priests. However, these weird ones fell out fairly evenly between hyper-traditional and those who embrace modernist heresy.

I don’t have a problem with agreeing when someone is right, Paul. I think anyone who has read my posts will find for themselves that that is true, and that when I have erred, I do not shy away from admitting publicly my fault. If I fall publicly, it is only fair–and honest–to do so publicly. So let’s go back to the part of your post I was replying to:

Ok, after having read that, it seems you are right. I totally misread and absolutely misunderstood what you meant by “paying attention and looking [for].” At first read, it seemed to me that you were insinuating that I was purposely looking to be mislead by the Priest.

I agree with you that I read you wrong, and I do not blame you for calling me to task for it. I apologize sincerely.

I also repeat what I said above, that I am jealous of all of you who do not have to deal with the issues I have, and apparently others on this thread, had to deal with.

I am sorry that I misunderstood you, Paul. I hope you can forgive me.

Now, to answer that conservative question on the other thread…

I think seeing the problems in the Church for what they are and recognizing the harm they have caused should be important to every faithful Catholic.
Yes it is, but nitpicking and calling those who disagree with you a modernist as the OP does and has done in this thread is not productive.
yes, yes, thank you for your modernist denial. The sky is green, the grass is blue and all is well there are no problems.

getting back on track now…

if you call what I mentioned in the OP “nit-picking”, and it is very easy to scroll back and find out what I wrote, byzcath, then there is something seriously wrong with your understanding of the term.

But if the sky is green and the grass is blue in byzcath’s world, I can understand perfectly your objections, Brother David, O. Carm.
