All,

I just want to make clear that I love our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, very much. However, is it acceptable to confess of not loving him enough?

By not doing enough and being a better Christian. If I loved Him more, I would demonstrate it by being more devout, read scripture etc. Difficult to explain.

We can never love God enough, because we can always love Him more. In fact, that should be our goal; it’s our highest goal. It’s actually His goal for us as well because we become all the more just as we reach it, and so it’s a work of His at the same time, unattainable without Him, without grace IOW.

Thank you for your reassuring responses, they’ve made me feel a lot better.

It’s just that I’ve only been back in the Church for over a year or so (been away since childhood), so am still a work in progress and am learning to love the Lord more and more each day.

Thank you for your advice, it’s very much appreciated.

God bless and a very happy and safe Divine Mercy Sunday to you all.

I think that there is difference between not loving God enough (in way that is not direct sin, not on purpose-nobody loves God enough because we are weak and imperfect humans and we don’t have full knowledge of God) and abridgement of love to God intentionally.
If you would lead yourself by first fact then there is also: I don’t love my parents enough, I don’t pray enough, I am not grateful enough, I am not obedient enough, I don’t love my neighbours enough, I am not not mercyful enough, I am not humble enough… and thousand other thigs. And all this is true in general because we are weak but it is not all sin in general.
This can be helpful:

And talk to your priest about your questions, he will surely give you answers you need.

None of us love Jesus enough, not even the great saints. Many saints and prayers have expressed that as puny humans, we can never love Jesus enough.

Your priest will likely give you some guidance on this. However, usually when we want to confess “not loving Jesus enough” it’s necessary to be more specific about exactly what we did or didn’t do that was “unloving”. Like, did we miss Sunday Mass for no good reason, or did we neglect praying for 2 days on vacation, or were we angry at God about something, or were we unkind to our neighbor and thus by extension unkind to Jesus. As CathF said, we can never love Jesus enough for what he did for us, so all day every day we’re all guilty of “not loving Jesus enough”, but the ways we fail in that love show us what faults each of us specifically needs to work on.

Oh okay, well you’ve been given some great advise.

The best way to love God is to first love yourself, be the best person you can be… allow the Holy Spirit to help you keep His commandments… and talk to your priest, they can offer the best advise.

I think by wanting to love Jesus more is a good step loving Him enough. 🙂
