Hi,

Today I confessed something really hard for me to say, but I don’t really know if I did it the right way. I got absolution and I felt extremely relieved… for about five minutes, until I asked myself “did I say it correctly?”. Can I still receive Communion, or should I go to confession again?

And yeah, I’m scrupulous. 🙂

You made an honest Confession, received absolution, and there is no reason to suppose the priest didn’t understand. He’s heard it all anyway and most likely knew what you meant and if not he could have questioned you if he’d wished.
Trust in God. 🙂

Every time you go to Confession from now, make a point of asking the Holy Spirit to ensure you say all God desires and in the way God desires, then you should trust in the Holy Spirit to do exactly that, and so never go through this sort of self-torture again.

God’s kindest blessings to you…and maybe say a prayer during Communion for others who also suffer from scrupulosity. 🙂

you are not responsible for what the priest does or does not do, you are responsible for telling your sins, with simple noun and verb to the best of your ability. If this is a problem for you and you tend to scrupulosity find one priest and confess only to him so he can guide you. Obey him as to how often and what to confess. Do not monday-morning quarterback your confessions, on your own or with anonymous strangers on the internet. Yes you were absolved yes you can go to communion.

Yeah, I know I’m responsible for telling my sins and that’s all, but the problem is that my sin was a very complex case, and I’m not sure if I said what I had to say to make the priest understand (yeah, I prayed for that a lot before the confession).

But Jesus knows.

Jesus told St. Faustina:

“When you approach the confessional, know this, that I Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your soul. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy. Tell souls that from this fount of mercy souls draw graces solely with the vessel of trust. If their trust is great, there is no limit to My generosity."

I’d like to add to the previous good posts that my own experience is that if a priest doesn’t understand something, he usually asks you to clarify. I’ve been asked to clarify a couple of times when the priest was unsure exactly what I was confessing. So if the priest didn’t question you, I’d be tempted to think that he understood what you told him and was satisfied with it. Hope this helps.

GO TO COMMUNION. PRIEST ARE TRAINED TO ASK IF THEY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS:)

God Bless,
Pat

Thank you all for your help.

I went to Communion today. Wonderful experience, as always. Thank you again. 🙂

Usually sins are not very complex. The circumstances might be, but the sin itself is not – I stole, I fornicated, I gossiped, I lied. You do not need to explain all the circumstances in confession, and as others have said, if the priest needs to know more, he will ask. Best solution is to start going to confession regularly and to the same priest. Follow his advice and do not doubt that you are forgiven. Go to communion and receive another grace from God.
