Dear Brothers and sisters,

Nobody has yet shown how the words of Our Lord

“But I say to you, Do not swear at all”

from Matthew 5:34

can be interpreted as

it’s allowed under some circumstances.

What do you call your Father?

Dad? Father?

In the same Gospel Jesus said to call no man on earth Father.

One must understand Jesus’s Teachings as they are understood in the Church.

Paul even said he had become the Father of some of the early Christians in the Gospel.

1 Cor. 4:14–15

His saying such does not mean that one cannot call ones Father – “Father”.

But is using a kind of hyperbole (exaggeration to make a point) as he did with the example of plucking out ones eye.

One must keep this in mind when one approachs some of the sayings of Jesus. To understand them as his Church has understood them down through the ages and to not take them in a way that they have not been understood and that he uses often particular forms of speech that must be understood rightly (not as 21st century statements).

The Church understands the words of Jesus there not as a 21st century statement but yes in a sense that oaths are not entirely excluded.
