The Pastor/Priest at my Byzantine Parish in Indianapolis is the Proto-Presbyter who serves the area including Notre Dame, it has been good to watch the growth of Eastern Catholicism in Indiana over the past year.

I think it’s cool that people even know that Eastern Catholics exist now. When I found out they existed I immediately check to see if there was a Eastern Catholic church near me which there is. I think that it is good that people know that the Church is more than just the Latin church

I had this discussion with my parish’s deacon last week, both he and our pastor transferred from the Roman Rite to the Byzantine Rite. We three speak quite often about how common it is to see good, faithful Roman Rite Catholics who are completely ignorant about anything other than what the Roman Rite specifically teaches.

Effectively in the minds of many, what the Roman Rite teaches specifically (and often exclusively) is perceived as THE teaching to be adhered to by ALL within the Church Universal. That and the utter suspension of disbelief that many must go through when they realize that not everyone prays the Rosary, let alone as a cornerstone of their faith practice. I could go on and on…

I went back to my Alma Mater, Colorado State U, last summer for my nieces wedding. I spent a LOT of time when I was at the university at the Pope John XXIII center. It later became Blessed John XXIII parish and now had changed it’s name to Saint John XXIII parish.

It’s located across the street from the University Gym (where the Basketball games are played) so is ALMOST on campus (30 feet).

They now have a Byzantine Divine Liturgy every Sunday afternoon at 3:00!!!

“Notre Dame seems to be the first Catholic university in the United States where an Eastern liturgy will be celebrated on campus on a regular basis.”
I’m surprised that the 1st Catholic school to offer Eastern liturgies wasn’t a school in Pennsylvania or in Ohio, like Duquesne, Xavier or Franciscan U. in Steubenville, in this region which has had a larger number of Greek Catholics for various historic reasons

Those areas would have nearby parishes to support their student members, this is in Indiana, not near very many Eastern parishes… that said, Im not certain the article is accurate

Notre Dame is confirmed heritical by many on the forum
Maybe you will have better luck than us Westerners in bringing them back to the true faith

Why would you expect Western Rite Catholics to be knowledgeable on Eastern Rite ?
Who existed in closed ethnic communities for the most part .
My mother ( an Italian immigrant)pointed out two churches in the eastern style next to each other when I was a boy
She said the one on the Right is Russian Orthodox they want nothing to do with us and the Pope
The one on the left is Russian Catholic their worship is almost identical but they are loyal to the Pope. Even though they speak a different language they are part of the same church even though their customs are different .

I’m sorry you don’t have a devotion to the Rosery which is a meditation on the Birth ,Life and Desth of Jesus through the eyes of Msry and offers us an example to follow for each episode in the story.
It’s also not a central part of the faith but a wonderful prayer

okay not everyone prays the rosary I pray the rosary this is true but this is very much a devotion in the Latin church. we are Catholic because we are Universal. Now some Eastern Catholics do pray the rosary but it’s not a requirement to be Catholic to pray the rosary. You are mistaken capital T traditions for lower case t traditions. this is not about whether or not someone prays the rosary if you want to talk about that post it spirituality.
