Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Nov. 27, 2017 is the First Sunday in Advent and it is also a little known Feast of Our Lady of Kibeho. This is an approved Apparition which took place in Africa, when Mary appeared to three schoolgirls as “Mother of the Word”. For more on this amazing visit of Our Lady, read HERE. I first learned of these apparitions in a small book entitled: Our Lady of Kibeho: Mary Speaks to the World from the Heart of Africa. It is an inexpensive paperback (even cheaper if you have a kindle to read it as an e-book).
It is significant to me that the Feast of Our Lady, this year, is on the same day as the beginning of Advent. The Shrine now at Kibeho is dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows. Mary appeared to these girls before the terrible genocide in Rwanda. If her warnings had been heeded, that tragedy may never have occurred. In one of the apparitions, Mary asked Alphonsine to repeat to the people three times:“You opened the door, and they refused to come in” Alphonsine then said, "Yes, Mother, I’m telling them you say that you saw the world in a bad state and you came to save us, but we’ve refused to listen. You want me to ask them three times, ‘What are you waiting for?’ "
I wonder: Is Mary asking you and me this question?
It is understood of course that Mary has only the power she receives from God; she can only say she saves us in the sense that she gave Jesus to the world as Savior. Mary’s life is totally given to God and we refuse her when we refuse God, for her words are simply: “Do whatever He tells you”. By God’s Grace, may this Advent be the holiest one of our lives, spent with Mary, expecting Jesus – for He is on His Way to us in special ways every day. Let us listen to Jesus, the Word, as our Mother Mary did and as she urges us to do. He comes through Mary by the power of the Holy Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit, overshadow us as You did Mary. Come Lord Jesus, live in us as you live in Mary.
