This is why the words in the liturgy relating to offering and sacrifice are said by the priest, not the entire congregation.
Yes, they are said by the priest, but in the first person plural.
the idea that when the priest celebrates the Eucharist he needs a congregation to do so for it to be valid (believe it or not, I heard this bizarre heresy from a layman in my local parish).
Yes, that is heretical and needs to be corrected wherever encountered.
Okay, Japhy you win.
“Winning” is not what I’m in it for (apart from winning souls). I just don’t what the Church’s doctrine misrepresented either to the right or the left.
But the only reason I objected before was because I’ve seen a tendency for some people to think that a congregation is needed for the Eucharist to be valid, as if they participated in the same manner as the priest. I had one parishioner tell me that “we don’t offer private Masses anymore, because Vatican II said that a congregation is necessary for the Sacrament to take place.” Which is. of course, completely false.
Yes, again, that’s heretical and needs correction.

The Council of Trent is an Ecumenical Council. It is Christ’s Church teaching.
It is not truly Ecumenical because it was held in isolation from the Eastern Church. Therefore the whole Church was not represented.

No offense, but the Eastern Churches that remain a part of the one Catholic Church were present, so it was ecumenical. Those of you whom, sadly, we consider schismatic no longer counted as constituting part of the Catholic Church. I’m not trying to offend, that is merely our belief.
