I find that I learn and absorb more about historical and saintly figures when I read a novel than when I read a dry account or biography.

I read a book called Army of Angels about St. Joan of Arc, but it was rather secularist for my taste. A friend pointed out *Personal Reflections of St. Joan of *Arc by Mark Twain, and I will check it out of the library soon. Orson Scott Card is a Mormon who writes mainly science fiction. He recently, however, started a series about the women of Genesis. I read Sarah and Rebekah and both were excellent. He has a new one out now called Rachel and Leah but I haven’t read it yet. He did a book about Moses called Stone Tables, but it had some odd Mormon stuff in it toward the end, so I wouldn’t recommend that one.

Does anyone know of any good novelizations of the lives of the Saints?

Ditto Louis de Wohl! “The Spear” is a wonderful novelization about St. Longinus, the soldier whose spear pierced the side of Christ at the crucifixion. Powerful book! “Lay Siege to Heaven”, about St. Catherine of Siena is also excellent.

If you want to get your children into the lives of the saints also, Mary Fabyan Windeatt has a series of books (about 24 in all) that are novelizations of the lives of the saints. Also Vision Books has a series of saints lives novels (about 30, I believe) geared toward pre-teens and teenagers. You can find these through Ignatius Press, I believe.

If you get the Ignatius Press catalogue, you will find many books about saints–biographies and such–and you might find what you’re looking for!

This looks like a good thread, I love to read but want to weed out the outright sinful things and replace them with literature that will help me in my spiritual journey instead of tempt me to setbacks.
