Hi. I have a question regarding novena intentions. I need help in understanding what intentions to pray for. I’m reading the book Devine Mercy in My Soul and have used examples about what intentions to pray for, but is that ok to do? I’m still somewhat confused what an intention is for. For example, can an intention be about the healing of someone who is sick? Can we say the intention is for myself, and what would I ask for? This is where I get confused the most. I hope I’m not confusing the question, and that someone can help with my question. Thank you.🙂

Hello!

You can pray about anything. There is no set intention to have when praying for someone or yourself. Yes, you can pray for the healing of someone who is sick. You can pray for you spiritual welfare, or your health. You can pray for it rain tomorrow if you really want to. You can pray for anything! 😃 Also, prayer isn’t just for intentions. The intent of your prayers could be to thank God for giving you another day of life. You could also have the intent of making amends for your sins. Prayer is simply a conversation between you and God! It doesn’t have to be structured or planned out. 🙂 I know my answer is a bit confusing, but I do hope it helped a bit!

You can pray for any intention you want as long as it is for the good of someone or something. Prayer is your private converstion with God.

Ditto what others have said.

The Divine Mercy novena is unusual in having a different intention for every day. It is more common to have an intention, or intentions, for the whole novena. The intentions and prayers can be modified for each day, but they don’t have to be.
