agape,

a good discussion. maybe best for another forum. I still disagree about the nature of active participation and the goal being everyone singing. the cardinal obviously points out that gregorian is to be maintianed, and he does say that we shouldn’t be hearing youth convention music at mass, not to mention every-week guitars. but for another time. I’m sure this has been beaten to death on both sides.

Until eternity, brother.

I recall requests for “Take me out to the Ball Game” at a funeral, because the deceased was a big baseball fan, and another time when some truly bizare Yoko Ono CD was handed to us to be played…

Not while I’m around.

back on topic, i think a lot of problems with funerals, nowadays, is that they can become occasions of immediate canonizations. people act as if the deceased is already in heaven. this is a tragedy since the soul will not get prayed for if it is in purgatory. our actions should not reflect this idea that we have co-opted God’s right to judge the soul’s eternal fate.

Finding commissioned Extraordinary ministers of HOly Communion at a funeral is sometimes very difficult.
I just had the pleasure today of attending a beautiful funeral Mass as one of my co-workers lost his father. You said that you have seen all kinds of thing. Let me share a good thing.

There was no shortage of ministers of Holy Communion today. My co-worker has a brother that is a priest and his brother priest showed up. There were 18 priests present and attired to assist (about 150 or so attended the funeral). It was a beautiful sight to see so many holy priests there to support their brother in his grief. Even the reading was done by a novitiate.
:yup:
