I enjoy Anthony Esolen’s complaining, because he does it with literary skill and humor. When I complain, it’s just being curmudgeonly.

I guess if you like to hear griping, he is literate. I am glad though I know of none like him in my parish.

But he would have no complaints about your parish! The parish he is in seems to be ideal for complaints.

Now that is something that would be speculative.🤣 Sometimes articles like that are more reflective of the writer than the parish, the liturgy, or any other issue.

But yes, we have young males in our parish.

On the other hand, I have chosen both The City of God and Here I Am (this last week) for Mass myself. The latter was particularly appropriate for the week and is one of the favorites of the parish.

There are many changes in addition to the language. There is no OT readings in the old mass. The priest faced the alter offering with the servers the prayers to God for the people. In the new mass the priest is like the host at a banquet and leads the prayers. I miss the last gospel in the old form but unless you know Latin you had to read it in the missal.
The old mass was not all in Latin and the current mass is not all in English, for us.
