Nowadays, why would anyone want to send their children to a Catholic School?

If you would not send your child to your parish school, then what are you doing about that?

*Can. 796 §1. Among the means to foster education, the Christian faithful are to hold schools in esteem; schools are the principal assistance to parents in fulfilling the function of education.

**§2. *The Christian faithful are to foster Catholic schools, assisting in their establishment and maintenance according to their means.

By assisting in the maintenance of Catholic schools, does canon law merely mean that the faithful have a duty to throw money at them? I would think not! May the faithful resign themselves to a situation where their parish school does more to undermine the faith than to foster it? How can that be?

To avoid public schools. I went to Catholic grade school and high school. Grade school was well grounded in Catholicism and typical strict nun-run school back in the 60s and 70s. The Catholic High School certainly didn’t provide a Catholic education, though it was good college prep and kept me out of the troubled public schools back then.

I also would like to add, although my family is not Catholic I thought it was very important to have my daughter in an environment that shared and supported some of the values that I believed and taught my daughter at home. For example, our body is a temple, God dwells in each of us and therefore we should respect our body. Further translation, dont abuse the body, no smoking or excessive drinking, no forms of sex until after marriage, exercise, and educate the mind. I knew the school as a whole supports these values which are mine. I appreciate this about the that environment.

I know that everyone around her does not share in these values but I know a great majority does.

Another reason I selected to send my child to a cs is in DC the system and the school is constantly in flux. I don’t want my child to be experimented on. I only have one child and one chance to do things right with her when it comes to school.

In my opinion, one of the highlights of having children go to catholic schools is that most of these schools enforce school uniforms. This is especially true for children that grow up in urban areas.
