So, do you have any reason to think that it was not a miracle?

There is also 2 Peter 2:15-16: “Leaving the right way they have gone astray, having followed the way of Balaam of Bosor, who loved the wages of iniquity, but had a check of his madness, the dumb beast used to the yoke, which speaking with man’s voice, forbade the folly of the prophet.”. It does seem to indicate that the story about donkey describes an actual miracle.
No, I don’t.

No, donkeys don’t speak. Not everything in the bible is to be taken literally.

Did the donkey speak? Or did God (or an angel) speak through the donkey?

Either way, all things are possible for God. He made a creature which doesn’t (usually) speak, but has power to bring speech forth from it because He created it.

While all the stories in the bible point to truth not all of them actually happened. That is the lowest form of reading scripture. You have to understand Hebrew writing (somewhat) to know that story was used to communicate an idea. It is also the evolution of humans understanding of God. God can not and would not order the slaughter of innocent humans. The story is told from the side of the Jewish people and communicates their understanding of God. The story of Job is a great example. The story is to communicate and allegiance to God through whatever the situation. I doubt seriously that God and Satan had a bet about whether or not Job would turn his back on God. It’s metaphor. It doesn’t however change the meaning when God finally speaks. In the end, all Job wanted to know is that God was there. For if God is there, I will be okay. Many examples of the same, especially in the Hebrew scriptures (Old Testament).
