NY Hospital Apologizes to Nurses Punished for Refusing to Facilitate Abortion
Hospital conscience policy still illegal?

NEW YORK, April 29, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The president of a New York hospital has reversed punishment against eight nurses who refused to take part in an abortion, and has issued an apology to some of them, reported Newsday on Thursday. However, there remains question as to whether the hospital would have persisted in coercing the nurses, in conflict with New York and federal law, had the patient’s case been accurately deemed an “emergency situation.”

“We erred in our personnel actions, have apologized to several of the nurses and will do so with the others, as well. They did nothing wrong,” Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) President Arthur Gianelli said Tuesday.

On the plus-side I’m happy the nurses got there job back and having the backbone to refuse assisting doctors performing abortion services.

In Canada; most regrettably many nurses are not given the choice to refuse assisting doctors procuring abortions that happen every Friday morning at my city hospital :sad_yes: When I worked as Sacristan/Custodian in my Church years ago there was a special Catholic woman hired as Church secretary. She quit her job as a professional Nurse who formerly worked in the Labor & Delivery Dept rather than be forced against her religious moral convictions to assist in abortions.

This makes me wonder in the United States when a citizen won’t have recourse to stand behind religious moral freedom whereby the Constitution of State against religious freedom do not see eye to eye on moral issues concerning the grave matter of abortion.

I certainly didn’t vote for abortions in my country.

That is because the Activist Supreme Court vacated the Law.Many of those who were appointed by that paragon of Catholicity Pierre Trudeau?

I’m afraid you’re quite mistaken.Since 1999 nurses have had the right to assist at abortions in Ontario. Please see attachment.consciencelaws.org/Repression-Conscience/Conscience-Repression-07.html

Yes your correct it was the…well I won’t use the word (“illustrious”) Mr. Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau who paved the way for the Supreme Court legalization of Abortion for Women in Canada.

Makes me wonder why Monseigneur Cardinal Turcotte gave Mr. Trudeau a full fledged state Catholic Requiem Mass when he passed away in Montreal some years past.

Perhaps it wasn’t Monseigneur Cardinal Turcotte’s position to cast judgment even though Mr. Trudeau was in contempt of his Catholic upbringing.

Can’t really say if such laws are similar in my province. I can only say that numerous Nurses are badgered by pressure to assist doctors in provincial abortions which may vary from province to province. Those who are not willing to comply and stand behind their religious moral convictions are often transferred to other units in the hospital with high work load and stress.

Women are the glue of civilization.Women are Life-givers.Women are the moral compass of civilization.Ever wonder why there are so many female Saints with the Greatest being the Mother of God.Ever wonder why so many women Saints are Doctor’s of the Church?
Ever wonder why Christ was so gentle with women and harsh with many men.Why did he first appear to St Mary Magdalene?God loves women for their innate civilizing influenceAnd because like all good decent men he loved and honoured his mom,who suckled him and cleaned His behind…All nurses with a concsience must show the Face Of Christ at their hospitals and bind together and refuse Caesar and launch lawsuit after lawsuit until the hospital administrators and Doctors and the Media submit to the Truth. My Mother was my Hero-she gave Caesar his due but not one ounce of her soul.Pray for our nurses, sister…

And then in the US we had the elaborate Requium Mass for Tedo Kennedy. Go figure.

In my Catholic Moral certitudes I strongly believe that NO ABORTION is justifiably right anywhere, anytime, or for any reason even if it costs the very life of a mother.

It truly saddens me that I like numerous other Christians and non-Christians feel in many ways powerless to stop abortions in our primitive selfish land.

And yet if this sends a painful harsh arrow in our hearts, how far much more it hurts God the Giver of Life.

Sure we have it as a gift within ourselves to pray, offer self mortification, and lead by example in a wholesome Christian manner of decorum.

It so easy to be overwhelmed by such sadness. Every Friday morning I am continually reminded of this when my city hospital carries out abortions.

And to add insult to injury there are private abortion clinics set up by the ill-famed Dr. Henry Morgentaler. And to think that this man won the prestigious Order of Canada similar to highest U.S. Presidential honorary degree given to a U.S. citizen.

What a shameful irony.

The only plus side to this if one can dare call it that is that my province won’t pay the private clinics or foot any medical bills where abortions are handled by private clinics.

Sometimes you just want to scream but feel as though your own energy has been robbed. It truly is sad.

“I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is Just”-Thomas Jefferson. He might as well have said it about Canada too.

Well Yes LoL; you could call me a Herring-choker since I’ve lived in this province over thirty years now. Actually though I’m sort of a mixed breed. A cross between a Nova Scotian (“Nouvelle-Écosse” New Scotland") Bluenoser and my French Québécois heritage. (“Je me souviens”)

Soutane; I enjoy reading much what you write also.

Fraternally Yours In Christ;
Chris
