I just watched the TLM for the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holyl Cross broadcast from Hanceville. Right there on the front of the altar: great big white pelican!
At Mount St. Joseph Monastery of the Discalced Carmelite Friars in San Jose, CA, there is an exquisite enameled cross (about 2 ft. high) in one of the visiting rooms that depicts - among the other sacred images on it - the pelican drawing blood from her breast to feed her young.
