“O Sacrament most holy! O Sacrament divine! All praise and all thanksgiving, be every moment Thine!”

I remember this being said after the Eucharist at Mass once but not these days? It was repeated three times and I loved it. How come I don’t hear this so much now?

This beautiful and worthwhile prayer is not part of the Liturgy of the Mass. A priest can’t just slip something into the liturgy, even if it is worthwhile and beautiful, and even it was once part of the Mass. The priest has to follow the liturgy and keep it intact.

One of the priests in our diocese was saying this prayer after Eucharist, and was corrected by the bishop.

I love this prayer, and I love to pray it when I am praying the Rosary in the Presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

Yeah, if it’s a Novus Ordo Mass then the priest needs to “do the red and say the black” just like for the Tridentine Latin Mass or any other liturgy.

One thing that I think is nice is for priests to revive the Leonine Prayers after Mass. They are not part of the Mass itself but it’s nice to have them.

This is also part of a hymn (the refrain) that is called “O Sacrament Most Holy”. You can find it in OCP hymnals (like Breaking Bread).

I don’t see anything wrong with, say, the choir singing just the refrain as a post-communion meditation.

It was and is very commonly sung in conjunction with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.

In our parish, we say it (three times) after Mass. Our previous priest started it, and it “stuck.”

Now, if I could just talk Father into adding the St. Michael prayer . . .
