"...O say to the virgin..."

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

In pondering the heart of Mary, having read Pope Francis’ Angelus Address (see HERE) from last Sunday, I keep remembering also the poem of St. John of the Cross:

The Wayfaring Virgin

The Wayfaring Virgin
Word in her womb
comes walking your way-
Haven’t you room for your Virgin and Mother?
Haven’t you room?
When Bethlehem’s coldness
bids her depart
O say to the virgin:
Come to my heart
with your heavenly burden
Come to my heart.

There is much “coldness” in our world today, and in particular, towards Mary. It is so sad to me and yet I believe God permits it for us to see how any follower of Jesus can expect rejection because He was rejected. Mary like Jesus is willing to suffer whatever the Lord permits in order that His Mercy may save those who walk in the darkness and the coldness of sin.

So today, let us at least, say to our Mother Mary “Come to my heart with your heavenly burden”. Bring Jesus to us, Mother, and let us comfort Him as you did with the humble love you teach us from your heart.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
