Matthew 23:1-3 "Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat; therefore, do whatever they teach you and follow it; but do not do as they do, for they do not practice what they teach.”

Matthew 27:20 “Now the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to have Jesus killed.”

Did the crowds follow Christ’s command, following everything the chief priests and the elders taught them?

If so, what does that mean for us?

“The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat”
Says that they exercise the authority of the church at the time.

Now did they persuade the crowd using that authority?
It is not written one way or the other. So we really cannot say.
If they did, then the crowd was obedient, and God’s will was done.
If they did not, the crowd was still obedient to them, and God’s will was done.
