Maybe I misread your post, but I think my dear friend you are confusing “obligations” with “authority”.
God forces no one to worship Him. In fact, is that not the basis of free will, that God allows me not to love Him and to live with the consequences of that action?
But, how do I love Him? How do I worship Him? Some may say “do what is in your heart, you don’t need anything written down”; but if that were to be the case what if my heart tells me to worship Him by sacrificing small animals and another worships by stealing and givning half of the money to the poor and another worships by following scripture literally and another, etc. They cannot all be pleasing to God - how does God want us to Worship Him?
Fortunately, He has told us. He has left us a Church with the authority to teach in His name and it is that authority that sets our obligations because when the Chruch speaks on faith or morals she speaks with the voice of God. Your obligation is not to the church but to the authority of God that she has.
I will be the first to admit that not every post on the forums is overflowing with the milk of human kindness, however when someone points out what the Church teaches and the consequences for not following that teaching, be it in or out of Church, they are performing a service by trying to ensure that we are aware of our obligation and duty to follow God’s wishes as expressed by His Church in His name (and they are performing a spiritual work or mercy - instructing the ignorant - as well).
