What is the difference between obsession and temptation. Or is obsession just a severe form of temptation.

Obsessive thoughts though are they sins if you’re trying not to have them.

Only if you consent to them. Pray instead and turn to Jesus. Yes speak to your priest if you are able to see one. Pray the rosary and read the Psalms as those help too.

You can’t control subconscious thoughts. I’m guessing it’s not a sin unless you are trying to think and obsess about it

Temptation is a bird flying above your head.

Obsession is allowing that bird to build a nest in your hair.

It depends on what, exactly, you’re obsessing about. I knew a guy once who seemed unable to carry on a conversation for five minutes, on any subject, without bringing chess into it. That was his obsession. It was what he was thinking about, apparently, all the time. People’s eyes would glaze over, but he wasn’t doing anything sinful.

@Donkey23, you’ve identified as having OCD in another of your threads. Please speak to a health professional, right now if possible.

Temptations to e.g., commit sin - come from the outside…
Obsessions are as a personal inability to cease certain negativity-related focus’
