Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Today is the Anniversary of the “Miracle of the Sun” at Fatima, Oct. 13 1917. Concluding his homily at Fatima, 2015, Pope Emeritus said:
"…We would be mistaken to think that Fatima’s prophetic mission is complete…
… our Blessed Mother came from heaven, offering to implant in the hearts of all those who trust in her the Love of God burning in her own heart.
Listening to St. Louis de Montfort’s words today:
  1. In view of this, my dear Master, is it not astonishing and pitiful to see the ignorance and short-sightedness of men with regard to your holy Mother? I am not speaking so much of idolaters and pagans who do not know you and consequently have no knowledge of her. I am not even speaking of heretics and schismatics who have left you and your holy Church and therefore are not interested in your holy Mother. I am speaking of Catholics, and even of educated Catholics, who profess to teach the faith to others but do not know you or your Mother except speculatively, in a dry, cold and sterile way.
These people seldom speak of your Mother or devotion to her. They say they are afraid that devotion to her will be abused and that you will be offended by excessive honour paid to her. They protest loudly when they see or hear a devout servant of Mary speak frequently with feeling, conviction and vigour of devotion to her. When he speaks of devotion to her as a sure means of finding and loving you without fear or illusion, or when he says this devotion is a short road free from danger, or an immaculate way free from imperfection, or a wondrous secret of finding you, they put before him a thousand specious reasons to show him how wrong he is to speak so much of Mary. There are, they say, great abuses in this devotion which we should try to stamp out and we should refer people to you rather than exhort them to have devotion to your Mother, whom they already love adequately.

If they are sometimes heard speaking of devotion to your Mother, it is not for the purpose of promoting it or convincing people of it but only to destroy the abuses made of it. Yet all the while these persons are devoid of piety or genuine devotion to you, for they have no devotion to Mary. They consider the Rosary and the Scapular as devotions suitable only for simple women or ignorant people. After all, they say, we do not need them to be saved. If they come across one who loves our Lady, who says the rosary or shows any devotion towards her, they soon move him to a change of mind and heart. They advise him to say the seven penitential psalms instead of the Rosary, and to show devotion to Jesus instead of to Mary…

On October 13, 1917, in Fatima, Mary kept her promise (I)

In July 1917, Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, the three visionary children of Fatima, Portugal, announced Our Lady’s promise to give a public miracle in Fatima on October 13th—that everyone would see and could believe in. This prediction spread rapidly throughout Portugal, so that on October 13, at noon, a crowd estimated at between 50,000 and 70,000 people was gathered.

The weather was rainy and the onlookers got soaked. At noon the rain stopped, and the children went into ecstasy, but the crowd did not hear the Blessed Virgin talking to Lucia:

“I want a chapel built here in my honor. I want you to continue saying the Rosary every day. The war will be over soon, and the soldiers will return to their homes… I am the Lady of the Rosary. People must amend their lives and ask pardon for their sins. They must not offend our Lord any more, for He is already offended too much!”

Then the Lady opened her hands and made them reflect on the sun, which Lucia pointed out to the crowd, turning round: “Look at the sun!”

At that moment thousands of individuals witnessed a miraculous vision. According to a local newspaper, “Before the astonished eyes of the crowd, whose aspect was biblical as they stood bare-headed, eagerly searching the sky, the sun trembled, made sudden incredible movements outside all cosmic laws—the sun ‘danced’ according to the typical expression of the people.”

Although the sky had suddenly turned clear and blue, the sun was not blinding and could be stared at. It shook, stirred, made sudden movements and finally began to spin, throwing beams of different colors on the crowd. The phenomenon stopped and resumed twice, before the sun seemed to zigzag over the earth, radiating an increasingly intense heat.

The people were awestruck. Many fell to their knees. An old atheist man waved his arms in the air and shouted: “ Holy Virgin! Blessed Virgin! ” And on all sides similar scenes took place. At the end, everyone was surprised to notice that their clothes had gone from being soaked to dry in the roughly 10 minutes that the miracle lasted.

October 13, 1917 in Fatima: The miracle of the sun

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Dear GioG12, aroosi, and Erundil,

Thank you all for your “hearts” which let us know you “like” the words of S. Louis de Montfort in “True Devotion”. I was especially struck at the beauty and truth of Pope Emeritus’ words in his homily at Fatima in 1917, and how they matched so perfectly with the words in “True Devotion”, in paragraph #64:
“…is it not astonishing and pitiful to see the ignorance and short-sightedness of men with regard to your holy Mother?”
I hope more Catholics will listen more carefully to Jesus words from His Cross to John and to all of us:
“Behold your Mother”
May we “see by Supernatural Faith” given us at Baptism, our Mother Mary each day, as Pope Emeritus said: “offering to implant in the hearts of all those who trust in her the Love of God, burning in her own heart.”

Dear CF_Mathews,

Thanks for the link to the PDF copy Of the October Fatima Family Holy Hour for the Church. May many families grow together in their love for Jesus through Mary!

Dear patricius79 and Tis_Bearself,

Thank you both for your “hearts” to tell us you appreciated the words of St. Louis de Montfort and the brief words from the homily of Pope Emeritus (Pope Benedict XVI).

How we need more Catholics to appreciate our Mother’s union with Jesus and the Love of God burning in her own heart which she shares with all those who trust in her!

Ah, dearCF_Matthews, we know Who really writes those posts – without Him working through Mary, we can do nothing!

Let us on this beautiful Memorial of St. Teresa of Avila, pray for one another, for His Body the Church to become holy as He is Holy – and for all those in most need of His Mercy to seek the way of Perfection as St. Teresa and all the saints have done.

Thanks for your love for Jesus through Mary!
