In trying to understand the history of Christianity in Malabar Coast, Indian subcontinent, known as Kerala State since 1956 by the union of two princely states and one erstwhile British India district, Malabar District of Madras Presidency, nine years after British India became Republic of India in 1947, I realize that history of churches must be studied alongside political influences and change of guard in the area and migration of peoples.

European colonization since 1498, by Portuguese, Spanish, Dutch, French and British led to recreation of maps and histories in all parts of the world where they ruled as colonial masters and formed permanent settlements. The creation of a new people in colonies, due to mixed marriages, transportation of slaves, migrations and settlements etc, has all left their stamp on histories of peoples. To ignore the details would be detrimental to understanding real history.

In Europe schisms, Reformations, World Wars, Communism, conquests by Muslims, Napolean, migration to the New World etc etc needs to be taken into account. Modern scholars seem to want to create neat explanations in places where there is uncertainty and chaos due to political upheavals. It is much easier to invent theories that appear simple rather than piece together many conflicting factors of real history.
