Why is it that the OF Mass is celebrated so irrevrently these days? It has lost the sense of the sacred.

Why aren’t Latin ad orientem OF Masses celebrated in all parishes. Latin is the official language of the Catholic Church and it would unify Catholics.

The abuses in the OF Mass today are unnaceptable. The music is banal. We need a widespread return to Gregorian Chant.

The vestments today are also banal.

Its not a problem of the OF Mass, its the problem of the priests. Although I would still at this point don’t blame the priests. Most of them feel they have their hands tied to please people who would otherwise stop going to church. I’ve seen a priest make some changes to an otherwise traditional OF parish and more people came and it became a more vibrant parish. I wouldn’t say he introduced horrible abuses but there are many things that is questionable to say the least or pushing the rubrics to its limits. He’s a good priest and well intentioned, and you cannot argue the results. But still.

Because there is an option to do otherwise. Its not an abuse to celebrate Versus Populum and in the vernacular. So don’t complain.

Latin is not the official language of the Catholic Church. Only the Roman Catholic Church. Its also false to assume Latin will unify Catholics. Language is not what unites us, its our faith in Christ.

False. Do you wish quotes or references?

Please don’t keep undermining the official language of your own Church. Besides, it may unify more than Catholics. I heard it’s now the 3rd most studied “foreign” language in the U.S. Universities.

I’ve never seen an irreverent, abusive or banal Mass, but then I’m not looking at whether other people are irreverent, abusive or banal, just whether I myself am irreverent, abusive or banal.

Go ahead, make sure they are talking about the entire Catholic Church and not just the Roman Catholic Church, which I made clear with my post.

So stating facts is undermining? Fact is more of the laity nowadays wouldn’t attend a Latin Mass just because of the language. How is that unifying? And with most of them unaware of Eastern Rites which are not hostile to the vernacular, most of them would simply become Protestant assuming Latin-only Masses are enforced throughout the Western Church.

A whole bunch of them are Protestant right now. They just don’t know it.
Did you ever notice the ease with which so many Catholics slide from the Church into Protestant sects? Same language, same songs, same musical instruments.
They don’t have a clue about what is different about Catholic belief or doctrine.

His own Church? Did you bother to look what Church he belongs to (it’s in his profile). I can assure you Latin is not the language of his Church.

Hint, there are 23 Catholic Churches in communion with the Holy Father. Only ONE of them, the Roman Church, has Latin as its official language.

All of this was free choice of the priests and partly the laity. The Church supposed that the laity and lower clergy is adult, and they could live with freedom. It was a mistake, but the truth is still that the free will is Gods greatest gift. The present liberalism related to the sacred is partly explained by the previous extremely strict control, after a long repression of any initiative, it is quite natural revolt.

Otherwise the sad fact is that the survival of the Church people and a liberal mass attract as many or more people from a 2 mile radius, than a traditional reverent mass from a 15 mile radius.

We have to meditate: was Christ’s public life and death sacred = set aside, or He was Emmanuel, lived among us and gave himself to our hand.

Right. Only those who are 100% lock in-step with Catholic teaching should be able to get into a church and receive the Sacraments. Everyone else should be cast away without hope of reform or salvation.

This forum is for Roman Catholics. We shouldn’t have to say “roman catholic” or “latin catholic” every time.

Don’t forget same beliefs.

Constantine the Roman Church isn’t hostile to the vernacular if that was the case we wouldn’t have vernacualar in the mass, but I am sure you arlready knew that.

Just love your sarcastic statements always undermining your fellow CAF poster and yet you still slide by unoticed. Last time I checked if your not in a state of grace you can’t receive the sacrament of the eucahrist, but then again I may be wrong, am I?

Was I talking about the Eucharist only? The problem here is there are people here who think that those who are not 100% into the faith should not even step into a church, much less receive the Eucharist. And by the way, you do receive all 7 Sacraments, not just the Eucharist. The term “receive” is not exclusive to Communion.

Where does it say that? This is the description from the main CAF page
The Eucharist, Mass, baptism, confession, abuses, Vatican rules
Now if you look at the Traditional Catholicism forum, its clear its about Roman Catholic faith
Forum for discussion of traditional Roman Catholic spirituality
So where does this say that L&S is only for Roman Catholics?

edit:
And just to add, because people make claims such as that where less informed people are misguided into believing that the Roman Catholic Church is the entire Catholic Church. It skews the image of Latin’s place in the entire Church when people think that the entire Church is the Latin Church. Also its not fair to many who rightfully belong to the one, true Church who never has Latin in the traditions of their own sui juris Churches. The bigger problem here is many people talk up Latin so much that it seems that we can only talk to God in Latin. And anyone who doesn’t agree with that view is someone who’s anti-Latin 🤷

We have the God of truth and our faith is based on truth, so when we speak we should also speak of truth. Not half-truths to push agendas so that other people will believe what our personal preferences would be.

Ah…but those of us that came back from the Protestant sect think that some Catholics who complain about things being “too Protestant”…really don’t have a clue! Its a completly different world…and yes I do know what is different about Catholic belief and doctrine…that’s why I came back…

Last time I checked…an OF Mass is a VALID Mass…to undermine it as not…or inferior is NOT in step with Catholic teaching. It would be the same as considering an EF Mass as invalid…
