One thing I’d like to get more into the habit of is offering up penance for others.

Fasting, discomfort, etc.

I thought this might be a good place for an exchange of ideas as far as HOW we can do this.

For instance,

Maybe fasting one day a week, at least from lunch or dinner, for specific individuals. Another idea is sleeping on the floor for others – not necessarily from now on, but maybe once a week for others.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I do a fast one day a week for the souls of priests in Purgatory. it is part of the approved Flame of Love devotion and there are some suggested rules for the fast.

I believe the devotion actually provides for three fast days a week if one wants to do more. Prior to Lent, I was doing 2 days a week and during most of Lent, I was doing 3 days a week and giving up other stuff. As this is Easter season, I have cut back to one fast day a week, also because I am having a difficult time in life right now and I need to eat for a bit. I may go back to two days a week at some point.

I offer up daily annoyances, trials, and challenges as they come up. This often works better than physical mortifications, since there’s a limit to how much fasting and poor sleeping I can do before it affects things like my job or my ability to drive and do household chores.

Of course I have to throw in ongoing abstinence from meat. We do it on Fridays during lent and Trappists do it all the time as ongoing penance.

And besides that we have so many opportunities in our daily lives to let our own will take back seat to the needs of others.

Absolutely. What are some of those examples throughout our daily lives?

Like when I have a plan of what I want to do and someone unexpectedly interrupts me and I respond t them with lovey and patience.
