Office of Hours question

Hello.

Quick question form a studying Catholic. Can the Office of Hours be used to simply read the scriptures contained therein?

Also what advantage is there to using a two year cycle of the one year cycle?

Do you mean the Liturgy of the Hours, or the first part of the sequence of daily prayers in the Liturgy of the Hours, called The Office of Readings?
