Office of Readings, Liturgy of Hours

Does anyone know of a one volume book that contains all the “Office of Readings” (ie for the whole calendar year)? If so, where can I buy it.

After searching for one on the internet, it seems that you have to have the 4-volume set of the LOH to get all the readings.

I know the readings are available in 4 small paper back books but I have never seen them. I just recall someone telling me about them.

There is a 6-volume series, covering the 2-year cycle, called *Christian Readings *but I am not sure if it is still in print. Even if not, used book sites might be helpful.

I have one book that has everthing plus all of the Franciscan feast days-It is called- Roman-Franciscan Chrisrian Prayer-from Catholic Book Publishing-New York.

No, that supplement does contain the propers for Franciscan offices, including non-biblical readings for the Office of Readings, but otherwise no more of that office than Christian Prayer.

Then if it’s not too much of a problem I strongly suggest buying a 4-volume edition (preferably leather version). You won’t regret it.

Other than money, the only inconvenience that the 4-volume set may offer is in the case where one must travel on long and frequent journies, making you pack multiple volumes at once. If this isn’t your issue, then strongly consider buying the complete LOTH set.

Thanks for your replies. BTW, I do have both the 4-volume set and the 1-volume Christian Prayer by Daughters of St Paul.

I like the 1-volume book because it is so compact. I wanted to buy another to be left as a reference in a chapel, and buying the 4-volume set for this purpose seems too expensive and because of the expense factor, it is more prone to theft.

As most of you all know, the 1st reading in the “Office of Readings” is always biblical, so a chart listing the verses to the bible can easily cover that part of it. (Everyone who has an LOH also has a bible). But the 2nd readings are reproduced from different sources (ie non-biblical readings); which is about 365 readings per year. Considering that the 1-volume LOH is about 1750 pages, I just wished they would have added another 300 or so more pages to include all those readings.

I use the psalms prayer in the one-volume and Universalis for the readings of the OOR. It lacks only the brief bits at the end of each reading.

That’s a lot like what I used to do. I would copy the second readings for the week ahead from Universalis and paste them on a document along with the biblical readings for the week ahead (copied from an online Bible) according to the 2 year table at the back of Christian Prayer. Then I would print it out and read each days readings after the psalms for the day from Christian Prayer.

There used to be a book for the Office of Readings available in one volume. I think it was from the Daughters of St. Paul but it’s out of print and seems to be rare. There was a copy on ebay last year so keep on the lookout if you’re interested.

It seems like most of those volumes are out of print but a couple of volumes are still listed on the Catholic Book Publishing site: here, and here.

There’s another supplement to the Liturgy of the Hours still available, called “A Word In Season”. It’s 6 volumes and follows a 2 year cycle. You can get the volume for the first weeks of Ordinary Time, Year 1 here, the volume for Lent and Easter Triduum here, or the full set of 6 volumes right here.

just buy one volume at a time, and it won’t be so expensive. After allyou only use one volumeat a time.

Since Lent is starting soon (Feb.25th) get the lent volume now and start using it on Ash Wed. Just before the Easter season is over get volume II … etc…

You’ll be spreading the cost over 3/4 of a year, the last volume you’ll buy just before Advent. Most of us can easily aford tit this way.

Then you will have ALL the readings.
