Just musing here… :hmmm:

What is going on at Christendom College…or Ave Maria University? Are they making allowances for the Motu Proprio of Benedict XVI?
Ave Maria is an interesting situation. According to what I hear around town, there’s a full-blown liturgical war going on between the charismatics (led by the president) and the traditionals (led by Fr. Fessio). The president, who is a maritime lawyer by training (!) and a former Steubenville-ite, has taken over control of liturgical planning from Fr. Fessio, and has moved Fr. Fessio’s well-attended Sunday Latin Novus Ordo Mass from 10AM to 8AM. He has also seen to it that the kneelers used as a temporary communion rail on the new campus have been removed from the campus and stored in a staff member’s garage, against the overwhelming desire of the students to have them at Mass.

As for the MP, the last I heard was that they are supposedly waiting for permission from the bishop to move forward. That makes no sense since the MP does not require such permission. But I think they will have to offer it on the campus due to the very large demand from the students. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make it as inconvenient as possible, though.

I’ve also heard that the president wants Ave Maria to get into the Steubenville-style charismatic-flavored youth-conference business.

I think the majority of conservative catholic folks out there think FSU masses - since the college tends to be celebrated as a bastion of orthodoxy - are of the EWTN type, reverent N.O., that sort of thing.
I must say that I knew little about the school’s ongoing liturgical life, but I am not entirely surprised by what you posted. My area is rather overrepresentative of the whole charismatic movement, and it has not produced either orthodoxy or licit Masses. Being forced to attend Masses in such an environment, where even the “non-charismatic” Masses are peppered with various charismatic actions, I have seen the fruit of this tree too closely for comfort. I could never be a supporter of this movement and certainly would never suffer a child of mine to attend that particular school. I have had to opt not to send my sons to a Catholic school here locally for the very same reason.
