Help Stop Embryonic Stem-Cell Research in Ohio
Ohio’s General Assembly is preparing to make its first statement about embryonic stem-cell research. With your help, they will make it a statement about the sanctity of human life!
Legislators are in their final stages of deliberations on a two-year state budget, which must be passed by the end of the month. This week a legislative conference committee is scheduled to meet to settle differences between the House and Senate versions of the state budget. One of the issues the conference committee will decide is how many of your tax dollars will pay for embryonic stem-cell research (ESCR).
The House version of the budget greatly restricts the use of state funds for ESCR. The Senate version, by contrast, would permit millions of your tax dollars for this immoral and unethical practice. Some dedicated, principled House members are committed to seeing that the House version of the stem-cell language be the one that becomes part of the version of Ohio’s budget that goes to Gov. Bob Taft. But they need your support!
Embryonic stem-cell research is the destruction of human life in its initial stages. We simply can’t permit scientists to tell us that a one-week-old embryo isn’t worthy of protection simply because it doesn’t look like a baby. If this becomes law, nothing would prevent these same researchers from requesting to destroy six-week-old embryos, 10-week-old embryos, and on and on.
This is a road Ohio should not take. The state shouldn’t be in the business of destroying human life, not even for medical research.
URGENT: MAKE TWO PHONE CALLS TODAY!
Sen. Bill Harris, President of the Ohio Senate, (614) 466-8086
Rep. John Husted, Speaker of Ohio House of Representatives, (614)644-6008
Tell them you want the HOUSE LANGUAGE on embryonic stem-cell research - NOT THE SENATE LANGUAGE - to be part of the final state budget bill. Also, tell them they should OPPOSE THE USE OF TAX DOLLARS FOR EMBRYONIC STEM-CELL RESEARCH, because it is the destruction of human life. Research proves that using adult stem cells is far more effective and doesn’t destroy human life. Please forward this important alert to all of your friends and family members in Ohio. Together, we can make a difference!
