Can anyone give me bible references where Jesus says He didn’t come to admonish the Old Testament, but to fulfill?

And a few Christian practices that come out of the Jewish traditions.

From the Catholic Encyclopedia:
(Jesus said) “I came not to destroy the law but to fulfil it.” This Christ did by insisting anew on the great law of charity towards God and man, which He explained more fully and gave us new motives for practising. He corrected the false glosses with which the Scribes and Pharisees had obscured the law as revealed by God, and He brushed aside the heap of petty observances with which they had overloaded it, and made it an intolerable burden. He denounced in unmeasured terms the externalism of Pharisaic observance of the Law, and insisted on its spirit being observed as well as the letter. As was suited to a law of love which replaced the Mosaic Law of fear, Christ wished to attract men to obey His precepts out of motives of charity and filial obedience, rather than compel submission by threats of punishment. He promised spiritual blessings rather than temporal, and taught His followers to despise the goods of this world in order to fix their affections on the future joys of life eternal. He was not content with a bare observance of the law, He boldly proposed to His disciples the infinite goodness and holiness of God for their model, and urged them to be perfect as their heavenly Father is perfect. In fulfilling the law, it is argued, Christ also ended the old Covenant and began the new and everlasting Covenant with man. I’ll let the others on this forum wrestle with that one.

One Jewish practice that Catholics do is praying for the dead. Christ’s sacrifice (and thus the Eucharist) is a fulfillment of the Passover sacrifice. Circumcision is fulfilled in baptism.

Do not be confused by St. Paul’s teachings that the law is out and faith only is in. St. Paul himself teaches us to obey the commandments. It was the law of circumsicion and Pharisie created frivolous Church laws that Paul opposes; Not Christ’s command to us to obey the commandments to go to heaven through him.

Abraham, Issac and Jacob are in heaven. The only way that they or anyone can go to heaven is through the blood of Jesus. Jesus fulfills the law so that those Israelites and Christians who obey God with all their strength can go to heaven through His blood. What is faith but obedience to Jesus commands, especially His command to obey God’s commandments with all your heart.

There are MANY, MANY, MANY Catholic practises that are based on Jewish tradition, festivals and temple worship. It is a whole area of typology in and of itself. This is much of the Tradition that our seperated brothers and sisters have lost. Most of them no longer have an altar and tabernacle which were at the heart of Jewish worship and remain central to our Catholic services. I am currently reading a book copyright 1906. “How Christ Said the First Mass”. by Fr James Meagher. It is 438 pages of explaining all the symbolism.
