I’m seeing controversial posts from people who haven’t posted in several years. Obviously there are CAFers out there who are holding old registrations in reserve so they can post potentially controversial threads with impunity.

Sometimes people have a way of revealing themselves. They have topics or phrases they repeatedly use.

Well, darn. I’m recently back from my usual sabbatical, as I teach high school all year and typically I’m only able to post in May and June. I certainly haven’t trolled anyone, and I wasn’t aware that this was a kind of “regulars club.” Note taken. :ok_hand:t4:

There’s actually one user who I’m pretty sure is running three separate accounts, and that’s just his similarly-named ones. I don’t know what the purpose is, but he doesn’t seem to get banned on any of them. Granted, it wouldn’t surprise me if he has been hit with discipline in the past.

No, it’s not a “regulars club,” that I’m referring to. It’s when a few people haven’t posted in four or five or more years show up all at once with posts that stir the pot. Too much to be coincidence. It happens a lot on another forum I visit.

Not that I mind stirring the pot. That can be fun if everyone is on the same page. But sometimes it’s more likely to cause irritation and discord.

If you or anyone else is suspicious of an account because it’s just posting out of the blue or because three accounts are all posting the same things, you can always report the account to the mods, who will look into it. I’ve reported accounts a number of times. Sometimes I’m apparently correct because the account vanishes, other times I see I am wrong as the account stays and it becomes more clear that the person is probably a unique account and not a duplicate of another existing account.

I too have wondered about several long-inactive accounts suddenly jumping in to controversial topics, typically stirring the pot like seasoned right-wingers.

It could be a sort of hack. Someone could search for abandoned accounts and somehow recover them, but how?

I thought this thread was literally about old posters - the kind you hang on the wall - coming back.

I have an old one of Farrah Fawcett somewhere too 😉

It’s not you. I think the OP is talking about accounts that have been dormant for years, since before CAF changed its service provider and format. Many users dropped out or re-enrolled under a new name, so there are a lot of dormant and probably abandoned accounts.

This poster of the cat hanging on for dear life was popular when I was in college along with posters from various area ski resorts - Breckenridge, Aspen, Vail
and Snowmass. I was in college in the
1970’s.

I recently came back after I think two years. I never was a faithful contributed to CA and started using Twitter but stopped it. Ended my account with them. Not sure how long I will continue here either, but this is a much better way to relate to people than Twitter. People can get very uncharitable in Twitter and ugly when they disagree with you.

A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government strong enough to take everything you have.
O dear – I truly didn’t do my snoop test. Regrets and I didn’t know that political posters where a NO,NO Please my sincere apologies for disturbing the peace of this scheduled topic. will try to do better for the future of this 14 day span of action. 🙃

No worries! Here at CAF, there are plenty of political topics/threads to choose from.

And it is Independence Day, so let’s celebrate. I saw – actually heard and then saw – two fighter jets fly over my town this evening. That’s a very rare sight around here. Probably on their way to or from some patriotic event. Seeing them up there, I felt a little surge of national pride. 🇺🇸
