Old Testament Eucharist?

I know this is probably a “scripture” category post, but there is more action here in apologetics!

Anyway, I just read 2 Chronicles, 4:19 in the New American Standard Bible.
Here it is: “Solomon also made all the things that were in the house of God: even the golden altar, the tables with the bread of the Presence on them,”

Are they refering to an OT eucharist?

If not, what does it mean?

No there was no such thing as an OT eucharist. The Jews in the OT had to sacrifice animals and sometimes bread and wine to God. It was the sacrifice of substitution. It substituted human sacrifice. It was an incomplete sacrifice, it was only to show their surrender to God. Then when Christ died on the Cross, the bread and wine consecrated at mass became the representative sacrifice of Christ and the complete true sacrifice. He represents mankind in his sacrifice to God for our sins. The Eucharist is both sacrifice and word. Jesus is word made flesh. So synogogue (worship with word)connected together with temple (worship with sacrifice). Our worship is now complete.

The bread of the presence or showbread refers to the twelve loaves of bread, an offering from the twelve tribes of Israel, that God commanded to be set before him on a gold table. Fresh loaves were set out each week. See Leviticus 24:5-9.

The OT is jammed with foreshadowings of the NT Eucharist, usually by a procedure called Identification by Juxtaposition, in which bread or wine or both are placed next to – “juxtaposed with” – a Christ picture, to tell us, “A = B; bread = Christ.”

For example, in the story of Jacob’s Deception in Genesis, Jacob, in the form of Mr. Sacrificed Kid Hands – he’s wearing the skin of kids sacrificed for the meal on his “hands,” a Bible symbol or “type” for Christ – carries “his own” sacrificed kid meat and offers it to his father for a blessing – just as Jesus went to HIS Father with HIS OWN sacrificed meat, so that WE might be “blessed.” Get it? Now, note that in the same story, bread and wine were served WITH the sacrificed meat of Mr. Sacrificed Kid Hands. Genesis 27:17, 25. That is not an accident. We are being told, “A = B”; “the bread and wine = the sacrificed meat of Mr. Sacrificed Kid Hands, Christ.”

Yes, I forgot to point out that the Old Testament clearly shows the need and importance of sacrifice. It also prophecies the Last Supper and Jesus’ eternal sacrifice on the cross. Worship of word is not enough. There is also a need of sacrifice which expresses and shows surrender to God. It also unites us with God and fullfills the covenant between God and man. Through the Eucharist we remember Christ’s passion, we also make it contemporary and present before us, we also remember the resurection and anticipate the second comming. We bring past, present, and future together.
