I have a corcern and question. I was invited to be a Godfather for someone for their first communion and said yes. I had to attend the meeting for the talks. When I got there I saw it was nice church they had our Lord the Virgin Mary and the Saints I got in put some Holy water. Then the explanation began they seem good but it was kind of different i ended up finding it was a Roman Catholic Church it was Old catholic traditional church. Is it okay to still be the Godfather and did I do wrong but putting Holy water in my forehead i did it by ignorance i thought it was a Roman Catholic Church

Rather than “old catholic traditional church”, I believe you are speaking of a schismatic Old Catholic Church. It is not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church, so their sacraments are illicit and invalid, and as such you cannot be a Godfather for a child being baptized into that faith.

Far be it for me to say you shouldn’t, but if it were me, I would respectfully decline, because if I had to fulfill my duties as Godfather, and raise the child, I could not raise him/her in a faith tradition outside one in full communion with Rome.

I don’t understand the concept of godfather for a communion. Baptism yes, communion?
