Anyone ever taken advantage of Omegle (wiki) for the purpose of evangelizing?

I’ve been active in just that for a while now (The Omegle Project, I call it), and it’s been really fulfilling. A good number of people, I find, are there for sexual exploits, so there are dangers. At the same time, what better place to bring the Gospel message of Christ and his Church? It’s one of the best ways, I think, to utilize New Media to our advantage. You’ll cover everything, from the sex-abuse scandal to the Eucharist to Salvation to the existence of God Himself. I recommend it.

What do you think?

[BIBLEDRB]Luke 10:3 [/BIBLEDRB]

Seems like a good place to fulfill this scripture.

Yuck

My friends always crack a joke or two about omegle, it’s well known that it’s full of sexual perverts and desperate people.

You’re right. I think I mentioned that, actually.

Here again though, what better place to evangelize? As long as you stay away from the webcam chat portion (which is nothing but occasion for sin), you can easily look past the perversion and desperation and get users to look at what (Whom) they’re truly desperate for. Those who don’t want to listen will simply disconnect from you and move on, but at least you’ve done what you can. On the other hand, I can personally attest to the fact that many go to the site for actual conversation, and it’s with those individuals that the topic of Catholicism, God, salvation, etc. can get quite deep.

Of course, I feel I have to mention Christ’s own example, which was not to avoid or stray from the morally inept, but to dine with them and convey parables to them. “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” Let’s not discount that.

Of course, if you can keep away from the occasion of sin, then that is a good idea. 👍
