Hi there,

I just made a confession. I confessed to sins like thinking Francis a heretic, de facto apostosing myself for beliving heresies like osas
However I forgot to mention I flirted with sedevacantism . I remembered right before Fr was saying the words of absolution, so didn’t saying anything. Was this still valid confession?

It doesn’t sound like you intentionally withheld. You forgot. You remembered late and it was probably awkwardness that held you back at that point, not an intent to deceive.

It would be best to ask a priest and bring this up in your next confession so you can confess this, too.

I had that happen to me once where I forgot to confess a sin in confession, I went back the next day and confessed again. He understood, absolved me and assigned me a penance. For a peace of mind I’d simply go back to confession and explain what happened.

If you honestly forgot, you are absolved.
On the other hand, if you wish to confess our sin at a future confession, I think that would be okay, too.

Wait, did you forget to mention it or did you deliberately ommit mentioning it? There is a difference.

Happened to me lots of times. As long as you genuinely forgot and didn’t deliberately omit it for the purpose of receiving absolution then you’re fine.

Still a good idea to mention it in your next confession.

Sorry if I’m being scrupulous
This. Confession is meant to bring you peace. If a sin still troubles you, mention it next confession. This fulfills the requirement that a sin be vocalized, however, the original confession still forgave it.

If I remember a sin after Father gave me absolution, I say that I want to include (insert particular sin) in my confession as well. He understands.

However, if a person deliberately omits a mortal sin, they make a bad confession (which is a sacrilege), none of their sins are forgiven and they cannot go to Holy Communion. They must make a general confession from the time of their last good confession to the present general confession.

When I was younger, there were times that I made a bad confession, being afraid to mention a mortal sin in confession because of what the priest would think of me. No suffering on earth can compare with the knowledge that one has made a bad confession. I had no peace of soul, was anxious, terrified… The only thing that helped me was a general confession, and then I regained peace in my soul.

I can honestly say that God in His Infinite Mercy has been and is good to me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be posting this today. I’d be either in my grave or spending $$$ on psychiatrists.

NEVER be afraid to mention anything in confession. The Enemy will try to sow distrust towards your confessor. Even if you think it’s stupid (Oh, what will Father think of me?), mention it anyway.

Most of all, ask the Holy Spirit to help you examine your conscience and make a good confession.

If through the grace and mercy of God I get to Heaven, I want to thank Him for everything - salvation, my Catholic Faith, the Sacraments and especially the innumerable times He has forgiven me my sins and given Himself to me in Holy Communion.

Thanks all for your advice. For those that asked I genuinely forgot but remembered when the priest was speaking , and wasn’t sure if I was allowed to interrupt
