My best friend and I are hoping to possibly hang out this Thursday. Unfortunately, I seem to have committed a sin I believe to be mortal. The earliest confession is the next town over, on Thursday evening. Problem. There are confessions at my home parish and the other one on Friday evening (and Thursday morning but I’m in school, so barring planned abscence that’s no no). If I choose to stay with my friend on Thursday then go Friday, would I have done something imprudent?

Note: I couldn’t find any resources on this, but if it’s been asked and answered, just link the thread and I’ll go there. Thanks!

Say and reflect on the Act of contrition right away and go to confession when it is possible.

I would go as soon as you can. You can’t be assured that your contrition is perfect, and so you can’t be sure that your sins are forgiven.

Is there another parish nearby that has confession at a different time?

If I were in your shoes I would go to confession. If your sin was mortal than you need to go ASAP.

Perhaps I’m missing something, but I don’t see why you couldn’t do both…? Confession doesn’t take hours on end.

She’d kinda just be sitting around. It’d be rude, I think. Either way, I found confessions for tonight in a reasonable-ish distance.
