If one in a state of grace were to go to eastern catholic DL and has been to Confession in the last month, must they go to Confession again before Communion, as is usual in the Orthodox Churches?

Confession/Penance before Eucharist is not usual in “the Orthodox Churches”. For some Orthodox it is and for some it is not. I recently heard an Orthodox priest explain that the Greek Orthodox tradition in Greece is for confession to be made to monks, not to one’s parish priest. In the US monks are not readily available so less frequent confession has become the norm. Also, not all priests have been given the faculties to hear confessions. I know of a young local Orthodox priest who is one of several in the parish who is not able to exercise the Holy Mystery of Penance/Confession. I’ve no idea why this is his situation.

Traditionally, one needs to be given the ability to hear confessions; it is not a faculty possessed by all priests. One does not need to go find a monk in the Greek tradition, just a father confessor, and priests capable of administering penance are not actually particularly rare in the US. The difference simply is that in the Greek tradition one confesses as often as necessary (a pastoral decision), while the Russian tradition tends to be that one confesses once per communion.

Thanks a bunch!

Stupid Scrupulosity…
please pray to Alphonsus Ligouri for me.
